What is an Audio Codec?
An audio codec is a device or computer program used to or decode and/or encode digital audio. Codec is a combination of the words Coder/Decoder. Audio codecs should not be confused with audio formats. Think of the audio format as a work order describing the final result and the codec as the person actually doing the work. There are multiple codecs for individual formats like MP3.
